Last updated: June 2026 · Applies to TheDiceCam website, desktop app, and browser extension.
TheDiceCam ("DiceCam", "we", "us") builds a tool that detects physical dice rolls with your own camera and sends the result to your virtual tabletop. This policy explains what we access, what we do and don't collect, and the choices you have.
1. The short version
- Dice detection runs locally on your device. Camera frames are processed on your machine and are not uploaded to us.
- The only roll data that leaves your device is the final result (for example, "17"), and it goes only to the virtual tabletop you connected.
- We don't sell your personal data.
- The website uses minimal data needed to operate and understand traffic.
2. Your camera and roll detection
DiceCam needs access to a webcam or camera to read your dice. This processing happens in the desktop app on your own computer. Video frames are analysed locally to determine which dice were rolled and their face values. Those frames are not transmitted to TheDiceCam and are not stored by us.
Once a roll is detected, DiceCam transmits only the resulting value (and related roll metadata such as die type and any modifiers you configured) to the virtual tabletop platform you have chosen to connect.
3. Information we collect
Information you provide
- Account or contact details if you join the beta, waitlist, or contact us (for example, an email address or Discord handle).
- Messages you send us for support or feedback.
Information collected automatically
- Basic website analytics such as pages viewed, approximate region, browser type, and referring source.
- Diagnostic or crash information from the app, if you have opted in to share it, to help us fix bugs.
4. Connected platforms and third parties
When you link a virtual tabletop such as Roll20 or D&D Beyond, you authorise DiceCam (via the browser extension) to post roll results to that service on your behalf, typically using an authorisation token. Your use of those platforms is governed by their own privacy policies and terms.
We also use third-party services to run our community and infrastructure, which may process limited data under their own policies, including:
- Discord (community, beta access, and support).
- Hosting and analytics providers for the website.
5. How we use information
- To provide, maintain, and improve DiceCam.
- To respond to your questions and provide support.
- To send you beta updates or launch news if you asked to receive them.
- To diagnose problems and improve detection accuracy and reliability.
6. Data retention
We keep the limited personal information we collect only as long as needed for the purposes above, or as required by law. You can ask us to delete contact information we hold about you at any time.
7. Your choices
- You can revoke camera access through your operating system at any time (DiceCam stops working until it is restored).
- You can disconnect a linked virtual tabletop from the extension at any time.
- You can unsubscribe from any emails we send.
- You can request access to, correction of, or deletion of personal information we hold about you.
8. Children
DiceCam is not directed to children under 13 (or the minimum age required in your region), and we do not knowingly collect their personal information.
9. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as the product evolves, especially as DiceCam moves from beta to general release. We will update the date at the top when we do.
